Im a combat engineer vet. Finding IEDs was my job for two years in Afghanistan. Pretty classic emplacement for an IED here it's in a choke point that forces soldiers to walk past it. You never want to walk down choke points more then once someone is always watching. It's possible that the IED is a fake to push you into a different area where a real IED or ambush is. That door you went though could have been wired for example. This kinda thing brings back memories. I should have died on multiple occasions.

Never-EVER do that. After Desert Storm they had to make it unlawful to search for war trophies (hats, knives, badges etc..) because people were digging through left-behind stuff and finding explosives. I think we lost more after Desert Storm than during the operation itself because of this.

Man, IEDs were no fucking joke back when I was downrange. Folks think war is what they see on TV and in video games. These shits were everywhere and the gotdamn random mortars and rockets raining down everyday.. we got thru it but imagine getting shot at and the enemy is long gone every fucking day for months.
I would inspect the airfield and find unexploded ordinance every few days. -Air Force combat Vet Iraq 2007-09
