Yes. In fact, they track way more than just your firearms. ATF has an illegal registry too.

I think the Government should be more concerned about tracking the bullets that are fired at them by upset people.

I bought most of my guns in 1980 and I lost them in a boating accident years ago.

The AFT has almost 1 BILLION form 4473's in a searchable, digital database. So, yes, they know where most of the guns are.

Are you kidding. They’re short staffed and swamped with paperwork, their CA office is just down the hall from us. They can’t keep up.

In states were private sales are legal without a background check they have zero idea what you own. They can only know what you have bought at a gun store in the past where 4473 was filled out.

They must know very few will give them up. Most would never turn them in without a firefight. They don't have the numbers on their side

So what happens when a gun store goes out of business?

So if one was to buy his guns by private sale he'd be good. Asking for a friend.

I believe FFL dealers only have to keep the record for 5 or 10 years but I could be wrong

The answer is an easy yes.

I heard if you buy a gun on a credit card the card reports you

Yeah. Not so much! Anyone with a brain should be smart enough to legally acquire firearms without any BS background or paperwork. Private sales are still legal!
