The code was really close this time. The header nav link does go by that selector, a is standard for any link, and an underline usually means text decoration. BUT this was totally a trick question - only the experienced Squarspacers know this one!!
In Squarespace 7.1, that underline for an active page is a background AND that active page is given its own selector o the correct code is:
.header-nav-link--active a {background-image: none!important}
