Did you know…kids are not supposed to be good at regulating their emotions. It’s a skill that requires a fully developed brain and lots of practice. It’s a gradual process and each child develops at their own pace.

In order to build their capacity for emotional regulation, kids need our help and the help of our regulated nervous system to co-regulate and many many repetitions to practice throughout many years.

I often feel that us grownups have higher expectations towards our kids than ourselves when it comes to emotional regulation. Which is ironic because it proves to be a challenging skill even for some of us with fully developed brains.
