How Star Wars RIPPED OFF The Wizard of Oz

Star Wars ripped off The Wizard of Oz? Sounds unlikely. But the parallels are striking when you think them through. This one-minute video shows how Dorothy/Luke; Professor Marvel/Obi Won Kenobi; Toto/R2D2; the Tin Woodsman/C3P0; the Cowardly Lion/Chewbacca; and the Wicked Witch/Darth Vader are so similar that it's hard to believe these are "coincidences."

This is not an argument about "The Hero's Journey" or any such grand theme. These are very specific details that show up in both properties. (For others, like the small people - Munchkins/Javas - watch the full video below).

Wow. L. Frank Baum should sue! Or maybe, some stories appear timeless and classic because it introduces a few things new, while sticking to a winning formula in so many other ways. George Lucas made no secret of the large volume of stories he borrowed heavily from to make his own timeless classic. And it worked.
