Kamala Harris is the most active Vice President in American history. Well, in the U.S. Senate, at least.

Kamala Harris is the most active Vice President in the United States Senate in history.

Remember, thereā€™s 100 members of the Senate. Whenever thereā€™s a 50-50 tie after a vote, one of the few jobs a Vice President actually has is to BREAK that tie, and of the 301 tie-breaking votes ever cast by vice presidents in the Senate, Harris has cast 33 of them. Yep, sheā€™s broke more ties in the Senate than any other Vice President in American history.

While most of these votes were to approve Joe Bidenā€™s judicial nominees, two notable laws that Harris broke ties for to get them passed were the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act, the biggest law Congress has ever passed to invest in fighting climate change and a big reason why prescription drug prices are going down for tens of millions of Americans.

Hey! I guess being a Vice President isnā€™t such a useless job after all

I think this is a testament to how polarized we are in the 2020s. The reason that there have been so many tiebreakers is because we had 50 Republicans and 50 Democrats in the Senate in 2020-22, which means that they voted completely partisanly 33 times. Are we really that unagreeable?

I thought the title said ā€œmost attractiveā€ for a second and I was likeā€¦ ā€˜I guess as a straight man Iā€™d have to agree, but Mr.Beat, how is that relevant?!ā€™

I love how youā€™re the American presidents guy. I wish there was a British Monarch guy. That would be cool.

I would have figured Adams would have the most since the senate would have been at its smallest size, therefore easier to tie.

This also represents how divided we are now if that many tie breaking votes have occured in only one term.

Almost 80 million Americans disagree with the results of the Inflation Act, and the prices of prescription drugs. Everyday Americans don't see any change, increases in prices to some accounts.

So many people have a hard time in understanding what the VP actually does.
They also complain why the sitting vp isnā€™t working on the issues right now.
These people need to learn about government and civics.

How dare you make an objective, educational video saying someone I donā€™t like made a historical record?

The Inflation Reduction Act has been a bigger success than I imagined, to the point where it helped change my perspective on the Biden administration.

2 reasons for this:
1. Partisanship, division and polarization is so much stronger now
2. The senate itself is already 50/50 on party lines
With polarization growing and senate elections getting closer and closer, I'm not gonna be surprised if one of the next few VPs breaks this record again

I was honestly amazed when someone said yesterday she cast more tie breaking votes than any other VP. When I checked it out and it was true by a country mile it made me wonder why no one talks about it.

The right isnā€™t attacking her on votes she cast.

The left isnā€™t attacking the right on holding up the senate on partisan lines for thingā€™s that historically havenā€™t been that partisan.

I wonder why that is.
