Customer gambled with taking on the job. he was one bolt away from maybe getting away with doing it himself. Rolled the dice and didnt come out on top with this one. Cant blame the guy for trying.

I mean at least he tried. The best way to avoid making mistakes is to never do anything.

This is why looking at tech information, including youtube videos, before taking on an unfamiliar job is a good idea,

That's happened to me from time to time, ngl. Knowing your mechanical limitations is the key to avoiding costly mistake$

I replaced that cover on my caravan because it was leaking oil on the bottom sides, and it looked oxidized. The new cover includes the water pump, gasket, and honestly? It's not a bad price for what you get.

I got it at Worldpac for a decent discount. Been buying from them for years.

Timing covers like this style can actually go bad. Can't recall which model Powerstroke (either 6.0 or 6.4) are known for water pump cavitation eating away at the cover, and eventually you get a leak through the cover into the oil. I would imagine others could suffer this issue too, just not aware of specific models off hand.

I've never broke any water pump bolts on a Pentastar.

1 broken bolt and the hole job is put on pause...... this is why i tell people i dont no how many hrs or days it will take... it will be done when its done ....... sometimes takes me a couple days sometimes a 1-2 weeks ....... but the 1 broken bolt always stops the job dead in its tracks ...... then the mechanic gota figure it out xD

Wouldn’t be cheaper to just drill out that bolt instead a whole new cover?

Why couldn't you just drill that out? It's what, 1/4" of material?
