An extra INT skill proficiency hardly constitutes evoking a "scholarly fantasy". You should have redesigned class to be full of class abilities that actually feature the accumulation and utilization of knowledge, rather than just letting simple spell selection define the Wizard's identity.
You could have also gone a step further and completely abandoned the traditional subclasses aligned with types of magic (abjuration, evocation, etc.) and done more with the idea of Schools and how they approach the utility of magic (Warmage, Blade Dancer, Scribe, etc.).

Arcana or History expertise is pretty good, definitely something that will come into play often and will feel good to have.
