Bar Keeper’s friend was all it took to bring back this solid brass! Add water, leave on for under a minute, then scrub with a sponge. I did multiple passes. (Protect the wood under if you’re not refinishing or take off the hardware if it’s removable.)
Deglosser, a.k.a. Liquid sandpaper and a scrubby sponge cleans and takes off that glossy top layer of finish to prep for paint.
Behr Urethane Alkyd Enamel is my favorite for pre-finished surfaces because it adheres so well without having to prime first and cures to a durable finish. This is the Satin finish in the color Winter Way. I used a brush for details and high density foam roller to smooth.
Varathane triple thick Polyurethane in clear satin sealed and protected the bare top. I used a rag to apply it with a continuous pass end-to-end in the direction of the grain.
I’ve got more in store for this table and the rest of the game room section of the home theater this week! But first, let’s play some checkers!
