It seems he's going just slightly to his hip and trying to catch the back leg. You seem to be going straight to your back. He wouldn't be able to see this to correct it because you're underneath him.

You should create a new bjj take down competency with the help of your black belt mate. The aim is to develop say 5 throws specifically aimed at scoring points in a bjj tournament and the challenge is to win the tournament using only throws and takedowns and no ground work. If you manage to win the tournament you get one pink stripe of your new balls out jitsu art👍
