Yes, 100% Richard, great advise. Learning to accept making mistakes has made the biggest difference to my re-learning CW after a 40 year break. A few months ago I would get very stressed and then make even more mistakes - even got to the point I couldn't send my own callsign properly over fear of getting it wrong! Once you realise pretty much everyone makes mistakes and the world doesn't stop, it gets much more enjoyable 🙂 Just send the little string of dots, take a breath and resend. And on receive you can always ask the other station to send something again - they're not going to mind, it could equally be QRM rather than you missed something.

This is a very good advice. There is nothing trascendental about a contact, people lose contacts everyday, no harm is done and you will not be marked or remembered at all! Just take a break, next time will be easier.

Very good advise. I'm always scared when I'm on the band as CW beginner but you are right: it's a hobby, no one force you to operate (esp. a specific speed) and nobody will judge you. 73

Hi Richard, these short videos are fabulous, thank you. Question…. I keep hearing conflicting opinions on whether it’s recommended to learn CW on a straight key or a paddle? As an experienced operator, do you have an opinion on this?
