YESSS, wonderfully said! I find often with people in my life, that those who often question why they're not more respected, repeatedly speak and act with low integrity that EVEN THEY THEMSELVES don't respect.
I get it, it's hard to see the negative or "less-than" things we do, and if we DO see them for what they are, it's hard to admit it AND change...much easier for some to blame others for not simply giving us respect because of our "position of authority" within our relationship dynamics (work, personal, romantic, parental, whatever). Much easier for some to not change. Well, I don't find that easier - to me that's a life filled with guilt, lies, and anxiety! No, thank you!

Totally see that and also wonder how much of not being able to respect yourself (and thus not making decisions from a place of integrity to that βselfβ) stems from not knowing who you are yet (not that we ever fully know). I feel like the age mentioned here is a time when one is sifting through and balancing personal ideals, 2nd hand subconscious belief systems, and current realities . Which makes the part about making decisions from a place of integrity an impossibility as that self-actualizad target keeps shifting. π€·ββοΈ

To go a little deeper I'd say that society in general expect men to "be useful" or somewhat "contribute" to society (as opposed to women where these expectations are a lot less if at all). And as a result, when men grow up and 'figured' that, they don't have much skills to offer at first (say teens or early twenties) and so many opt for "low hanging fruits" such as trying to look cool, smoking, growing a goatie, buying a Mustang and burning tires on Friday nights, etc. As you mentioned, real personality pays off more, but it takes longer time.

It almost feels like a blessing when you just listen to a short dropped by Sir Mark Manson that genuinely provides you clarity about overly complexified things. Thanks to you for sharing your opinions based on reality β€οΈ
