I played Sims 3 before I played Sims 2. I remember my 11 y/o self reading the Sunset Valley description for the first time wondering what Pleasantview was. When I began looking into Sims 2 about a year later, it all made a lot more sense.

This always bothered me, because the layout of the towns are not the same. Pleasantview is also supposed to be the same neighborhood as Sims 1, and that doesn’t match in layout either.

The description for Sunset Valley would say otherwise imo. hence "Before Pleasantview there was Sunset Valley." To me that implies that Sunset Valley was a separate town that was founded before Pleasantview. Just my take.

I don't know if I can agree. The Sims 1's timeline takes place before The Sims 2 but after The Sims 3. The Goth family has move between The Sims 1's and The Sims 2's timeline as Goths' Family picture album contains picture of them living in a house that looks like the Goth Mansion in The Sims 1.
