I have to consciously fight myself not to do this. Yes, it's more convenient for the door to wait for me to finish whatever before closing, but it's wasting energy.
It's bad enough, that nearly all the cold air the fridge & freezer worked so hard to make & maintain, just spills out, when we open the door, because sideways doors are more popular in kitchens then the more efficient chest freezers. I don't even chest fridges exist, you have to nerf a chest fridge, or make sure a standard fridge combo is ok with working on it's back, like a prostitute.
As bad & complicated as all this is, I felt compelled to leave the fridge open, while pouring a drink, MIXING a drink, or prepping some food. I have broken this habit, and you can too. Just think of your energy bill, and the other things you can buy, or financial safety net you can build, with all the money you save.

π I wish our fridge door would close like that! Instead it stays open by itself, and for far too long, in my opinion, when my husband is βin the middle of getting stuffβ and I have to ask him to close it before he continues on.
Every moment the door is open, all that stored up cold air is just falling down out of the fridge and causing the fridge to have to work harder and use more electricity to bring it back down to temp!

I am the opposite, I make sure the door shuts and is open minimally to keep the cold in.
