I’ll never understand why parents refuse to let a kid cut their hair if they want to cut it. It baffles me. Let the baby get a hair cut if she wants one.

As someone who grew up with a mom like this who was very toxic when it came to my hair (because I had the same hair type as her). My mom would scream at me and make me cry if it didn’t look right, and my deepest insecurities come from my hair. So I understand why the daughter might want to get away from that. Especially since having a mother that obsessed with your hair makes you feel 2 things, 1: that your hair doesn’t belong to you (which can cause the issues creating boundaries in the future), and 2: that your mother only loves you for your hair (which in this case proved to be true).

My mom did the opposite. I wanted looong hair but she took me and got it all chopped off. It was traumatic and nobody except my dad has trimmed it since. Now that I'm older I don't have a grudge anymore because it may have been why my hair isn't baby fine, but I still can't make myself go to a salon...

Definitely NTA! It's just hair and mom needs to get over herself. Kids learn to make decisions and live with the consequences, when they are encouraged to make personal autonomy decisions from an early age. It is healthy and developmentally appropriate. Mom is inflicting an unhealthy relationship on her daughter by attempting to live vicariously through her. Then mom runs from the situation and stays gone for more than a day ... grow up and get over yourself.

Then go buy a hairdresser doll for hairdressers in training or something. There are specific things for this kind of situation.

Look having a pixie haircut is not a big deal. You can still tell the difference between a boy and girl. PERIOD. And that's the least to worry about. And if YOU HAVE EVER had or born with curly hair of any kind you will understand this little girl. 1 friz ruins any hairstyle within 2 min. 2 Thicknes between that and curls it hurts to comb through or braid. 3 headaches when you have that much hair it gets heavy and it hurts. I'm a combination of red black and various shades of brown in my hair and am a teenager. Trust me. I KNOW THESE THINGS

As the mother, I think she was us happy with her daughters hair and she would be sad that she could’ve hair, but I think she knew except that she had to because her daughter wasn’t happy but if she really didn’t like it, she should’ve divorced him and her daughter and made a new family instead and just move on and forget about that or they can stay and forget about the problems and become a happy family
