The comments on here crack me up lol. I started doing construction in 1999. You name it, I've been a part of it. Should he have used a vibrater, absolutely. The fact that the cone itself is fabric, tapping on the sides with your hands will help settle the concrete. I personally work with the brand of concrete that he is using in this video, when mixed properly it's a durable, high strength concrete that last for years. This concrete will cure strong AF even though his water to mix ratio was a touch off. I liked the fact that he used legit rebar inside the column. Any minor cracking that does happen, won't affect the structural integrity. As far as the little minor defects in the concrete, that's normal. I see it all the time in basement walls after they're poured. Yes the walls were vibrated lol. Throw in the fact that this column is being used on a residential project, I'd say over kill. Now days most columns are decorative. They have a 4x4 or 6x6 support beam framed out with lumber and brick to look beefy. This dude gets a thumbs up š from me bravo homy she'll last lol. The rest of the keyboard construction workers can keep crying š..

Iād leave the skin on as long as I could for at least 2 weeks. Iām not sure how long he left it on, but ambient air is concretes biggest enemy while curling. Best to leave it sealed and keep the reaction going. Iād also have vibrated it a bit more. You need the Portland tight on the outside. It will turn a 50 year column, into a 200 year column.

This dude KNEW he would get butchered in the comments.
Fact is that concrete breaks well over 5000psi most often 7ā¦as it is more similar to grout mix,
Thereās absolutely 0 reason to vibrate on a slow trickleā¦.especially since everyone of you says heās using too much water. See, as the grout spills out and dribbles in itās creating its own self consolidation, the shear weight of the drip causes it to vibrate. (For instance you put you hand on the tube while it is being filled, you will feel slight vibration the entire time.
I would say he just hasnāt used that mixer/product to know you donāt need that much water.
Pre mix concrete is really tricky to finish, it has to almost resemble a dry pack to get a good finish this millennia, of course then you run into the issue if itās mixed properlyā¦
I donāt think this guy could have done anything right to suit most all of us can we agree on that!?
I love the home made lift basket, with the safety harness to make it extra safe.
Also, much cheaper than hard hat.

I guess people donāt realize water rises when pouring concrete. Throw a rock in water and magically itāll sink. This guy did a fantastic job, and Iām genuinely impressed how his base turned out given such a high column single pour.
Anyone know how he was able to get a flat base without everything pouring out?

I do it all the time. Rubbing the outcome of your craftsmanship. It's admiration.
