And of course USA made goods are likely to be more expensive too as most manufacturers are reliant on imported raw materials. That’s one of the reasons that a high tariff on the EU makes no sense as the EU exports a lot of intermediary products, like chemicals and tooling, that USA manufacturers import.

What is it good that your currency falls for your exporters, when the other countries have put tariffs of their own on US goods, basically nullifying this “advantage”.
Still every product produced in the USA has a foreign made component somewhere, if it is not in the product itself then it is something within the production or supply chain that will make the cost go up anyway.

There is a reason why tariffs were taken down to get the globalization running and made it possible for all countries to participate and contribute to the global trade somehow. Because there are countries that are really good in something but there is no country that is good in everything, also not the USA although MAGA Americans tend to believe that.

The less we import, especially from China, the stronger we get, right on President Trump

There are economists taking the position that a strong USD is has a lot to do with America's manufacturing problems. They argue that a weaker dollar combined with tariffs will bring manufacturing back to America and make it the economic power house it was in the 50's. I confess that there seems to be some validity to the position. Although Trump's financial backers want factories with a ton of automation. Meaning a lot less labour. So if they are taxed properly, (they won't be), and the money is used to fund government programs like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and even Socialized healthcare, (the Republicans will never do that. But the Democrats or Progressives may), it might ultimately be good for Americans.

Americans should stop buying cheap Chinese goods and search for quality.

Overconsumption in modern society is partly to blame for how we got here.

This applies to China as well as the United States.

Golly Gee it's almost like Trump's plan to wean America off of imports might include a weaker dollar. Also, didn't this guy a few months ago tell us how a strong dollar was hurting a lot of the world economies making it harder for them to use the dollar in trade because of the expense. You just can't win with some people.

Little Lord Fauntleroy Trump hasn’t the mental acuity to consider cause and effect, he’s never been held accountable for anything in his spoilt special little world. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
