This is a Great documentary, especially for those who didn't know about Stax Records! Stax music and its artists remind me of the spontaneous Saturday afternoon gatherings in my grandparent's backyard - red soda pop, stacks of BBQ, fried chicken, greens with some fatback - Durkee's Red Hot sauce and Heinz white vinegar with cornbread - my grandparents and older relatives, each with laugh that made us kids laugh even harder than they were laughing, shouting to cousins "do that one dance like we used to do," or putting that one child on top of the Coleman Cooler to do 'The James Brown.' Sometimes He's get carried away and attempt the splits - knocking the cooler open as he fell backwards spilling chunks of ice along with the Mickey's Big Mouth Beer, Shasta Cola, and Coors. Then the 45 stack would drop 'Green Onions,' my grandfather's favorite song, he'd tilt his hat and slowly start moving his head from side to side to the drum beat - then he'd start moving his shoulders up and down with the bass as he slowly walked towards my grandmother who pretended that she wasn't in the mood to dance but after 1 minute she'd bite her bottom lip and start doing the most energetic Shing-a-ling i'd seen. We watched as 'Green Onions' transported them back to their young adulthood! Then The Staples Singers 'Come Go With Me' would play and everyone let out a collective "Allllllright Now! Ahhh Yeah," which was an invitation for everyone to start moving like a church at 11am on Sunday morning. That's the power of Stax. There is nothing like authentic Soul Music.
