We went to a zoo and they had a completely accessible play ground and it was absolutely perfect for my little cousin I've never seen him that happy!! But the zoo failed to have enough handicap parking spots and a handicap stall (I have a Service Dog and don't feel comfortable leaving him outside)

I hate that there is still so many places in the world that arenāt accessible. Iām glad that my local park has a whole accessible playground in it. I am even one of the kids who are involved with it! I have my own statue of a seal that I got to name, along with a plaque with my name on it. I had even got to cut the ribbon when the playground opened. š I am grateful that the accessibility was considered when that playground was made, and I am so happy I was able to be apart of it as a permanent wheelchair user! It is one of my dreams to eventually be an advocate for more accessible places

What material would be accessible for a playgroundās floor? I understand wood or rubber chips get stuck in wheels, but would hard surfaces be dangerous for falling children? Is there a squishy ground that wouldnāt be inaccessible?
(Iām genuinely curious and mean no hate <3, I love learning about inclusive spaces and just donāt know!)

In my town thereās several disabled-friendly playgrounds. One near my house has a wheelchair accessible platform that rocks back and forth - kind of like a giant seesaw - and a communication board for nonverbal communication. We have a ways to go with accessibility but Iām glad to see my town is getting there slowly but surely :)

Part of playing on a playground for kids is the inclusion in the make believe games, not just the entertainment factor of the physical equipment. The ability to get up the multiple ramps means the child in a wheel chair can also be a pirate or astronaut, even if they canāt navigate all of the equipment. They can be where the imaginative play is happening, and other kids can involve them in the story.

I've seen a few good accessible things in playgrounds! The most memorable were the spinny roundabouts, which I have seen two designs of. One where the wheelchair is clipped to a normal seat, and another with a wheelchair bay (that's a really bad explanation sorry)
Another favourite is the disability friendly swings. I've seen a carousel thing with the zip line seats but also the disability seat. And also swings, some with a bar and some without. I find that they are also good for neurodivergent people, as they are good sensory swings for those that can't afford them, and for people with things like angelman syndrome, down syndrome, and severe autism, the ones with safety straps and bars mean that they can safely enjoy swings

Itās tricky to find a ground cover material that is safe for kids to fall on AND can support a wheelchair, because in order to protect kids from broken bones, the ground has to have some give. We want the ground to absorb the shock of the fall, not childrenās bones. In order to support a wheelchair, however, the ground needs to be unmovable. Adding paved paths to the wood chip area could be a solution as long as the paths are not under an area from where kids are likely to fall. I liked the musical area on the ground, but I didnāt see any wheelchair accessible swings, which is a definite option for improvement of this playground.

My city has an accessible playground. It's not perfect but it has a lot more for wheelchair users that the one you went to. Off the top of my head, I know it has a wheelchair accessible swing, merry-go-round, and ramps to the play structures. There's also a "zip line" looking thing that has two side by side rails. One side has a safety seat with a harness that could be used by disabled people if they have help into the seat. The other side has a round thing you can stand or sit on to ride back and forth. The park is called Mickey's Kingdom and there is a good video on Youtube that shows a lot of the equipment.

Where im from there is a huge park meant for disabled people and able people alike! For instance, the swings have a place to load the wheelchair and lock it in place to swing! There is also a marry go round with the sam lock in clip! Its super fun for able people to, to be able to run around and play with the other kids.

My local park is being rebuilt to have a whole accessible section! I hope it will have more than ramps though. I think there might be accessible swings.
