In this conversation, Dr. Rachel Brown discusses the critical link between diet and mental health, emphasizing the importance of nutritional interventions in psychiatric treatment. She shares her experiences with patients who have seen significant improvements through dietary changes, particularly with ketogenic and carnivore diets. The discussion also covers the challenges of integrating these approaches into mainstream psychiatry, the impact of insulin resistance on mental health, and the need for more research in this area. Dr. Brown advocates for a shift towards functional medicine, focusing on root causes rather than just symptoms. Since I have almost complete control now over the foods my brother eats, I've finally been able to keep most of the carbohydrates out of his diet. One evening after around two weeks of our ketovore diet, out of the blue my brother said "Why do I feel like everything's okay?" I know that would sound like an unusual thing for most people to say, but when my brother was still eating a very high carb diet (on one typical day I estimated he had eaten around 300 grams of carbohydrates), he worried every second of every day that something major was going to go wrong - even when there was absolutely nothing indicating that anything bad was going to happen. The diet seemed to work better when I added more of the Vitamin B1 meats (pork chops, ham, and bacon) to it. I still make sure he has plenty of the high fat beef (extra thin sliced rib-eye makes excellent Philly Cheesesteak - but minus the bun, of course) with enough iodized salt, as well as pasture-raised eggs and grass-fed butter.

Thank you for talking about the physiological aspect rather than just that annoying buzzword 'anxiety'.

Do you even need into eat, the schedule...what do you eat growing up while your body determines itself through the products? I would literally puke out cereal in the morning.
