I was looking out the window yesterday, when it was like 14 degrees outside, and saw some wild ducks just paddling around the lake like it was nothing. I remember being terrified about my chickens freezing in winter, years ago, but these guys really are a LOT more resilient than a lot of us give them credit for!

Yes it does!! I have a 19 yr old mallard and he HATES the cold!! He winters in my toasty garage which makes us both happier!!

I have a book called "Storeys Guide to Raising Ducks" and it said that ducks can survive temperatures as low as -20° F because of their thick layers of feathers but it never gets that cold where I live sooooo idk

I figured out that my ducks actually go in their pool only when it's running (not still water) because it's warmer than the 32 degree snow. So they feel that the water is warmer than the ground/out of their pool

That's also my cat's reaction to cold weather.😂 Any other day, she darts out the door when I come home, but when it's in single digits or lower, she's not interested

My ducks will go out regardless, but then quack at me to let them back in after 15-20mins (won't go in without me being there often times even though the door is open) or lay down and not acknowledge when I tell them to go in...

That's basically letting them out for two hours during the middle of the day when temperatures are at their warmest.
