I needed to hear this advice today. I reflect too much on the past that no longer serves me in the present and the person I am becoming in my retirement. I struggle with "letting it go" which has been a self-inflicted ball and chain weighing me down and holding me back from moving forward. Sometimes it takes courage to cut the ball and chain, but it will most certainly bring relief and my journey will become lighter. Thank you for sharing Azul.

I am retired for 4-1/2 years now and it was an adjustment that I was not mentally prepared for. Following a 46 year career, I had 4,500 contacts in my phone, hundreds of co-workers at multiple manufacturing facilities, all my wonderful customers and vendors relationships and even the regulatory agencies I worked with since the 1970's. When I retired, it all stopped. It leaves a big void in your life. I have always done photography and it supplied a big opportunity in my life. My camera brings increased contacts with a new group of people, travel destinations that are not "work travel" and a wonderful involvement in the arts community. Retirement is a "new" life, not just a new time in your life, but the discovery of a new being.

Absolutely true 👌In short, if you are an active person who maintains an interest in something like a side hustle or business interests you are essentially re inventing yourself. In my case I resigned from formal employment at 55 and pursued my business interests on my terms and at my pace. I have very little contact with my erstwhile colleagues by choice. That chapter of my life is closed now

I had the coincidence of an office environmnet going toxic, the end of the pandemic (no more work from home), and me turning 65. It was easy to do the paperwork side of retiring to get out of the bad environment, and after a 6-9 month adjustment I seemed to have returned to fun stuff I wasn't able to do while working - playing music, radio/TV electronics, outdoor exploration, reading a good book. As long as you have a direction then don't put off retiring.

Makes total sense. I did exactly what she did about identity when I retired at 54 8yrs ago. My identity is one of fitness and travel. Just yesterday I completed a 20km walk in just over 3 hours. Health is Wealth
