💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.

⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.

This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.

This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.

Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the

Makes total sense. I did exactly what she did about identity when I retired at 54 8yrs ago. My identity is one of fitness and travel. Just yesterday I completed a 20km walk in just over 3 hours. Health is Wealth

I needed to hear this advice today. I reflect too much on the past that no longer serves me in the present and the person I am becoming in my retirement. I struggle with "letting it go" which has been a self-inflicted ball and chain weighing me down and holding me back from moving forward. Sometimes it takes courage to cut the ball and chain, but it will most certainly bring relief and my journey will become lighter. Thank you for sharing Azul.

I am retired for 4-1/2 years now and it was an adjustment that I was not mentally prepared for. Following a 46 year career, I had 4,500 contacts in my phone, hundreds of co-workers at multiple manufacturing facilities, all my wonderful customers and vendors relationships and even the regulatory agencies I worked with since the 1970's. When I retired, it all stopped. It leaves a big void in your life. I have always done photography and it supplied a big opportunity in my life. My camera brings increased contacts with a new group of people, travel destinations that are not "work travel" and a wonderful involvement in the arts community. Retirement is a "new" life, not just a new time in your life, but the discovery of a new being.

Absolutely true 👌In short, if you are an active person who maintains an interest in something like a side hustle or business interests you are essentially re inventing yourself. In my case I resigned from formal employment at 55 and pursued my business interests on my terms and at my pace. I have very little contact with my erstwhile colleagues by choice. That chapter of my life is closed now

I had the coincidence of an office environmnet going toxic, the end of the pandemic (no more work from home), and me turning 65. It was easy to do the paperwork side of retiring to get out of the bad environment, and after a 6-9 month adjustment I seemed to have returned to fun stuff I wasn't able to do while working - playing music, radio/TV electronics, outdoor exploration, reading a good book. As long as you have a direction then don't put off retiring.

Great advice, you need to let go of who you were. That can be a struggle indeed.

I recently retired; work for me was secondary; I worked to provide for my children. I, too, got rid of all my work clothes. Don’t need them in a warm climate. I’m glad work never defines me. Retirement is great!!

Definitely an issue for some professions more than others where your identity is tied up into your work.

You need to be yourself. Always. If you're not ready to retire, don't. You'll know if you are. My dad told me that and it is 100% true.

It was easy for me 5 years ago. I worked from my home office in the country for last 12 years of software development and network support. Seemed to make the transition much easier than if I were in a office environment. Don't miss the "crises calls' in the middle of the night either.

I think about retirement daily and I am 11 years away God willing. I have already carved out what I wanna do with my free time. It is planning. It is sacrifice.
