My last car, I got the numbers and kept going through them and through them. They didn’t add up right. There was always $495 extra. Finally, I got the dealership to confess that they “added” a crappy alarm that they use when they have the car on the lot and they expect me to pay for it. But there was no line item for it. So I had them pull it. I’ll pay to get my own crappy alarm if I want to. Can’t trust a dealership as far as you can throw them.

When I bought my truck, I knew (within 50 dollars) what the total would be after taxes and fees. I knew how much I was putting down, what promotional interest rate I would be getting, and what my monthly payment would be (within 5 dollars). It was so clear to the finance manager that I was running the numbers that he didn't even offer me any of those add-ons. It was a super fast transaction.

I have been an auto technician for 48 years. Mostly in dealerships. I am writing this in a service bay right now. The shit I have seen is so bad when I tell people they think I have made it up. I have worked for a dealer in the 90s that taught the F&I guys to hold their hand in a certain spot on the contract to cover the interest rate. I have seen salesman high 5 each other for screwing a lady out every dime she had. I found this woman sitting in her car crying with 2 small kids. Because she didn't have money to buy gas to get home. She had to hVe a car, to work. Husband left same story. So they sell her a piece of junk for 5,000 over list. Making them a big bonus. This dealership gave a tank of gas when you bought a car. New or used. So these guys would that thier owne car up and fill it. Fill out paperwork showing the car they sold as being the one that they filled up. Anyway, I took care of getting her gas. I have lots of same kind of storys.

I wish there was a cooling off period on car purchase contracts just like about everything else! There should be now with the high price of cars!
I was in a similar situation, had been there for hours (noticed they had remodeled and replaced nice soft chairs with stools for the customers likely based on the theory they could wear you down faster if you are getting tired of sitting on a stool) and ended up getting too many add ons as my wife didn't want the haggle. We were saved by the finance company who would not finance it due to being over priced with all the add on items. Went to my credit union and they had a form to cancel all the garbage stuff and give us a good load.

Went in to a dealership 2 years ago at 21 & bought my first car. No license, or credit score. They claim they hooked me up on so much savings for someone without those two things. Went in at 4 pm. Got out of them at 12 am. I came out happy asf thinking I got a deal on a 5 year old DISCONTINUED car, 91k miles, 23k OTD price, 27.99% APR, $500 a month, 2,500 down. Recently totaled it and started doing research on buying a new car. When I tell you my mouth dropped when I realized how stupid I was. I cried like a bitch cuz that debt drowned me. I could’ve avoided it if I had just done my research. So I promised myself to not let any seller take advantage of me if I can do my research to defend myself. I am now ready to go in at a dealer and demand what’s right. Def financing through a credit union as well this time. And looking at all those BS fees they wanna charge me.
