As a total homeboy and introvert, please just stay for the whole thing. Especially as a parent. This is a SUPER important day for your child. its just one day and it will mean so much to them.
If you really cannot stay around people that much, take breaks in-between. Head to the bathroom to refocus or go to a less crowded area. Maybe gather around people you know and feel comfortable with. A quick chat and congrats to the newly weds would be nice.
As a parent you should be there for the whole thing though

I HATE social gatherings but I would just suck it up for one day ESPECIALLY if it was my own son's wedding. You showed him that he wasn't worth the effort of you showing up at his special day and also dragged your wife down with you. so I am an extrovert, so I never mind staying in socializing, no matter what the event is but I can completely understand that introvert point of view and they said they arenβt comfortable. It is usually very hard to get them out of their comfort zone and I only is it hard to get them out of the comfort zone most introvert have social anxiety, which means they can make it hard for them to enjoy themselves no matter what the event is thereβs no point in him staying for the full thing if he canβt even enjoy his sons big day, how I feel is I donβt think OP is the a hole at all but I do feel like that OP should see a psychologist for his social anxiety.

yeah, might've been a very important day for the son, but the father informed him ahead of time, although, it seems like the son didn't acknowledge that factum. and anyways, just cause someone says they're not a very social person, doesn't mean that they have to share if they have any conditions or anything, no one other than the writer knows what's going on with themselves, which in reality should really be why people should stop judging just from what they hear, cause you can't really judge someone before you get to know them

I honestly don't agree with you. It'd be one thing if he missed the ceremony but he didn't. He just didn't stay for the reception and people do that all the time at weddings. They'll rsvp for the ceremony and then dip for the reception. If he was in the wedding, then yes, he's the a*whole, but if he was just a guest, he's allowed to leave the reception. I, for one, would do and have done the same thing.
