The best way to build something or someone up is to do just that, you don't have to tear down another in order to do so. Different strokes for different folks my friends. I love both systems, and like some of you, I backed it on Kickstarter. I also really enjoy Pathfinder, Trophy Dark, and Dungeon Crawl Classics. I like the simplicity of some, the complexity of others, and everything in between. Keep in mind that the themes in Shadowdark are not going to work at every table. Obviously, you can adapt the ruleset to any homebrewed campaign as so many of us already do with D&D but that's not the point. I just feel like so many online commentators shit on D&D because of Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, but they don't have to define how we play and enjoy the game at our own tables. One of the things I enjoy about D&D is the rich and detailed lore, which I readily incorporate into the elaborate story driven campaigns that I write and favor playing in. Like I said, to each their own. If you don't like D&D for the game that it is, then that is your prerogative. Shadowdark is a phenomenal game and can stand on its own merits.
