Instructions unclear. Now I'm stuck in the future with no way back.

I did this in my former occupation. I noticed that many people ten years ahead of me had broken marriages and didn't really have much wealth either. I left shortly after that realization.

Find people 10 years ahead of you on your current path and ask them: - How they feel? - What their current problems are? - What their regrets are? - What would they change?

The hard part is finding those people when you are in the totally wrong context.

The problem is also the moment you ask someone these questions. If someone is tired or had a tough day, they are going to pass on these negative feelings; if they had a success or received good news at work, they are likely to speak positively.

It definitely gives great insight and valuable perspectives. Just be careful to not accept and be limited to the challenges they faced specifically relevant to their personal journey and the environment at that time. It's important to know your own edge, both personal and environmental. Good luck!!

whats crazy is that doctors work 80 hours a week... WHY? You can't legally do that as a truck driver. But doctor? thats fine? WTF

I heard this a slightly different way, someone said you need at least two mentors in life. One from the older generation to hear how they handled things that may be relevant to you in the future . But equally important is to have a mentor one generation younger than you to be in conversation with issues that didnt exist in your time but exist for them and that we need to be cognisant of that to do what we can for them

Gonna start with asking you, Mark. How do ya feel, huh? What is like to have so much financial freedom and get to travel wherever you you want to go around the globe?

Really helpful for kids in high school before they go to college for a major they don’t like at a school that sucks

It's easy to find people who are unhappy and regretful.

Most of the people will hate their career after 10 years, just few love their career. So can't depend on others. It's how you feel about a career. I don't think so this advice will work for everyone.

Ugh... I advised my husband to do this 15+ years ago. All he has ever gotten from people in numerous different careers is "You don't want to do this!" Ugh! Not helpful! He missed out on so many good opportunities because people are so whiney and he believed them.

This goes for anything in life and not just those who are 10 years ahead of you. Many cultures believe in the respect and wisdom held by their elders for this reason. How many times when we were kids or teens did we roll our eyes at something our parents or teachers told us only to see what they told us eventually manifest in our own lives? Everyone walks their own paths and makes their discoveries that's right for their own life but that involves not dismissing the knowledge of those who are further along in their life path and also history.

Ironically, I’m currently mentoring someone 10 years junior in the career path while actively seeking an escape from the path. While I don’t want to discourage from pursuing this path, I won’t shy away from discussing its downsides, things that I didn’t consider sufficiently before. Having said that, I don’t regret coming down this path, as the experience that I’ve gained in this path allows me to pivot into more enjoyable paths than being stuck at my old job. Tbh, I’d want to go part-time but it’s not possible in my career and in my level, so let’s see where I eventually end up.

this genuinely saved me from ending up stuck behind a desk wasting away under corporate pressures, I love having an engineering type mind but I'd much rather use it for personal projects lmao

10 years ago i thought what i do matters and it was enough motivation. Now i see, anything i do makes no sense, and it comes down just to money. So i dont care if i do it right or not. Work killed my soul.
