POV: When You Don’t Have Much Space or Equipment

The hardest part about traveling for me is sticking to my gym routine.

If I’m only away for a week, I can live without it. But if it’s 5+ weeks, I need to adapt, otherwise I’ll go stir crazy.

Here are a few things I do when I’ve got minimal equipment or space, but still want to keep the intensity high and maintain strength & fitness:

1. Swap in single-leg & unilateral work
If the dumbbells available are lighter than I’m used to, I make the exercises harder by going single-leg or single-arm. For example:
Single-leg RDLs
Bulgarian split squats
Pistol squats
1-arm row in bear crawl stance
Seated 1-arm shoulder press (on the floor)

2. Train circuit style
When I’m away, time is short. Circuits help me keep the intensity high, elevate my heart rate, and maintain cardio fitness.

3. Keep rest short
Instead of my usual longer rests, I stick to 30–45 seconds. This keeps the pace up, gets me out of the gym faster, and makes the sessions more challenging.

4. Focus on skills & bodyweight strength
Travel is the perfect time to work on things that don’t need equipment, loading mobility drills, calisthenics progressions, handstand practice, and push-up variations.

👉 If you’d like a travel-friendly training plan you can do anywhere with minimal space and equipment, drop a “plan” in the comments and I’ll send it straight to your inbox

This is a constant struggle for me! I travel for a living, and the quality and equipment selection and even functionality of hotel “fitness centers” is usually a coin toss! You never know if you’re gonna walk into an epic gym or a small room with 3 dumb bells 2 broken treadmills and a few resistance bands lol

Think of the people in the apartment below you when you’re slamming that ball on the floor for your stupid video.
