2月19日は、1861年のこの日、ロシア皇帝アレクサンドル2世が農奴解放令を発布した日です。
モスクワの中央広場である「赤の広場」は、メーデーや革命記念式典が行われることで知られています。「赤の広場」と呼ばれるため、広場自体が赤いのかと思う人もいるかもしれませんが、実際にはそのような色ではありません。また、レーニンの廟やクレムリンがあるため、「赤」は共産主義を指していると考える人もいますが、これも誤りです。
