If everyone is referring to "Mean Streets" then they can shut up. Joe got that 99% correct except for a subtle pause. That intro is insanely difficult and he nailed it. I'll take Joe over Vai any day of the week but that's just my opinion. Eddie invented someting that Satriani surpassed. That's why he was chosen.

Imagine being criticized for messing up a sonh, that was written by someone else, that you were asked to play on a moments notice, while recorded.
99.9% of everyone wouldnt even have a guitar pick ready to play, let alone have a shot at doing it.
Joe Satriani has the greatest selling INSTRUMENTAL rock album ever.....think of all the great guitar players, and NONE have ever done it.

Not many have restraint in opinions. Ive tried to understand van halens choice of chords. I recognize the incredible talent and complexity however i cant relate to the music. To me it seems confused, he always looked so happy yet he had several major health problems, i wonder if he was depressed and his emotions manifested in self harm, the hip then the cancer? He did much to elevate music as Satriani does. I relate much more to Satriani than EVH, his chord choices etc. My all time is Tony MacAlpine no one come close to emotional expression.
Even so i choose to learn try not to criticize because acceptance equals growth as a musician.
A coworker commented on Taylor Swift last week. Not my thing. Even so she has talent and cajones performing in front of so many people, she brings joy to so many people even to me i dont relate to her music.
i think more about including people not cancelling or eliminating them, alas patience is learned from guitar, feeling off balance continually always trying to improve, and thus Satrianis "mistakes" are simply human.
