It's why I'm marrying a Frenchman instead of an American. Their dating culture is much better and they tend to have better relationship values. You just need to be comfortable with the bluntness of the French and accept that the truth can hurt sometimes. They don't sugarcoat everything. Their humor can also be shocking and even offensive to some. Thankfully, I am unfazed. But I'm happy in my relationship and I have a man who treats me well. Most of all he's genuine and takes responsibility for his own actions if he happens to do something out of line, which is a rare event as it is. We can actually communicate without our misunderstandings turning into arguments. When I am with him I feel like I'm actually accompanied by an adult who is ready for the responsibilities of not only a serious relationship but a marriage and family. I don't really get that from most Americans in general but more women tend to grow out of it than men. I'm not just saying that because I'm a woman. It's has in fact been proven. I would recommend looking into the failure to launch studies and programs which is an issue that arose in males about 20 years ago or so. I see the maturity for the things I described in my future husband in many of the French, both male and female. It was so refreshing.
