The anime looked me in the face, laughed, shot me in the foot, healed it and then shot me again; to death this time.

Of course the show with a name like “banana fish” would essentially be focused on the mafia

The good thing is that no matter if a girl, man or woman, we all got equally traumatized, and that is what matters.

The thing I love the most of Banana Fish is that it's fandom is in the credits of "Mr. Loverman" because if it wasn't for the Banana Fish fandom the song wouldn't be that popular

Banana Fish honestly helped SO MUCH with the homophobia inside the anime/manga community, at least in the groups I've been inserted. I say this bc I personally saw some people change their minds about gay relationships after watching it, literally saw homophobes bawling their eyes out

Another thing is that this is probably the only anime with sooo many DIFFICULT THEMES & did not exaggerate or make fun of or brush off the topics. Many bl use them as troupes for tragic backstory many isekai does them for comedy & plot progression. But its the only show that has sincere way of dealing with those heavy themes. No metaphor is used. Non fantasy setting makes the emotions & stakes feel real

Banana Fish is one of those shows that when you finish it you just have to sit there and let it sink it. It’s so good. One of my all time favorite anime. Not-so-fun Fun Fact: Akimi Yoshida, the author, briefly considered changing the ending after River Phoenix (Ash’s main inspiration) died, as she worried it would seem insensitive. However, she decides against the change, as she had it planned since the beginning. An actual fun fact: the late Ryuichi Sakamoto owned the live-action film rights to Banana Fish, but to public knowledge production never started (likely due to River’s death).

Still upset that it doesn't have a dub. I mean I don't usually care for the dub but the setting is literally in nyc. It feels kinda weird when ash talks about eiji speaking broken english when they're all talking in japanese lmao.

I first read Banana Fish when I was 16 and now I'm in my 30s but the story still stook with me through the years.

For the last 6 years, every year since the anime's release I've rewatched it at least once a year and I STILL cry like a lil bish

Banana fish was absolutely one of the best I seen. Everyone should really watch it. It’s realistic and there’s a lot of topics that are dark in there as well. But, it’s an amazing anime and manga. Please go watch it guys!!! However, you could end up crying a lot and possibly being depressed. But eh. Don’t get spoilers

I have a love-hate relationship with this series because the story is so beautiful but I hated the ending so much. They deserved better. But I still understand why the ending had to be that way. My feelings are so torn.
