The only "terrifying" thing about these jinmenkens is the massive size of their heads. Poor things look like they're about to fall over. There's really no reason to be afraid of them unless people nowadays are just cowards, idk. They may look strange, but they're harmless.
Personally, I'd rather hang with a human faced dog over most real humans, especially when it comes to the double standards. Humans in fiction treat jinmenkens horribly and even unalive them due to superstitions about them, yet they worship sphinxes like gods, and they look similar.
