Who’s a fan of this plant?

Marshmallow is one of my favorite herbs to use for a persistent cough or a tricky rash. It’s mucilaginous, making it soothing and cooling for inflamed skin and mucous membranes. Mucilage coats the lining of the digestive tract to alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort and can also provide relief for urinary tract infections.

We mostly work with the root, but its leaves and flowers can be used as medicine as well. When making tea, marshmallow is best infused in cold water to draw out all the gloopy goodness. For easy preparation, you can infuse it overnight and drink throughout the following day. The root can also be dried, powdered, and used topically as a poultice.

Marshmallow has a lovely, sweet taste and is very safe to work with, as there are no known contraindications.
