As a cadet (14) I was assigned to a maintenance crew at RAF Lyneham. We were unloading C130 wheels with burnt out brakes off another C130 and Chief said stand on the ramp and let it down real slow and don't let it get away from you or it'll hit those F111s. Of course no way I could stop it, but tried real hard and panicked and the wheel rolled off the ramp and just flopped over. Always pranking the new guy.

I saw this accident live and in colour at the airshow in Fairford/GB in 2002. The Italian crew wanted to show one of their so-called "Sarajevo landings", which they had to perform during the war in (former) Yugoslavia. The best part came when the aircraft came to a standstill. Three little Italians jumped out of the plane and looked embarrassed. The aerodrome fire brigade rushed over and covered the whole place with foam. Afterwards, the firefighters gathered around, put their hands on the plane like deer hunters on their prey and took a selfie...

This airplane is an Alitalia (now Leonardo) G-222, also known in the USAF as C-27 Spartan... This was an obvious pilot induced error during an air show, but this landing has been performed hundreds of times by italian test pilots without any issues (the demo also includes a low-altitude barrell roll that helped them win a Farnborough Airshow accolade)

Absolutely love your channel. My great Uncle trained pilots for WW2 for the RCAF. My grandfather was a private pilot and had a Cessna from the 60's. Used to let me co pilot when I was young, this is early 80's we are talking. Something so amazing about flight. I think it's something only certain people understand and respect the skill and science involved. Keep posting Captain, I salute you

Combat landings are awesome. You're sat in the back, thinking about how uncomfortable your helmet is and how you haven't been able to sleep for the past 6 hours. Then all of a sudden. You're almost weightless and heading towards the ground very quickly. Great times!
