Popular in the Italian peninsula as well. I imagine because they also had fruit trees, hedges, and the French on occasion.

Of course, nowadays we have a powered version: the electricity bill.

Bill Shakespeare wouldn't have let his characters use anything else.

A fine example as to why angry peasants (especially well trained ones) tended to give the nobility heartburn. They could be quite creative with the tools in the garden shed...

Fun fact: the billhook is actually short for Billiamhook!

Legend has it that if you hold one of these bad boys and stare menacingly every horse riding soldier will instantly fall off their horse.

"Because well more spikes probably helped" Lindy your delivery is so good.

The bit at the back looks really good at punching through armour while the stabby bit on top is probably for bracing against cavalry

Every home needs one. You never know when a French man might come by.

In my childhood, I used to be enamoured by swords. The topic of so much fantasy, of heroes and warriors, knights and samurai.

I bought a few swords, two katanas and one longsword... And now I i find myself pining for a good length of wood with a blade at the end.

I suppose we all have to grow up and accept the polearm, eh?

What I’ve learned is that your comment sections genuinely have some of the best humor I’ve ever seen

Now, that is a weapon that fits the bill perfectly.

More spikes always help. You can never have too many.

And if you happen to like that Frenchman, you can hit him with the blunt end.

I suspect the spike on the back is intended to catch opposing bills and spears

The point on the back was specifically there to swing it as hard as possible into armour. Against the thick plate armour of the day, it could often only be pentrated by a spike with a nice long swing so that ot wouild git as hard as possible.
