Markandeya, a young and ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, was deeply immersed in prayer and meditation. Suddenly, Yama, the god of death, arrived and declared, "I am your end, and I have come to take your life." However, the child, lost in his devotion to Mahadev, remained unaware of Yama's words.
Seeing this, Yama grew furious and attempted to seize the boy's life with his noose of death. But the child, absorbed in unwavering devotion, was unaffected by the attack.
Witnessing this extraordinary devotion, Lord Shiva was immensely pleased and appeared before the boy. He blessed Markandeya with eternal life, making him immune to the clutches of death.
Thus, it is said, *"Even death is powerless before a true devotee of Mahadev."*
