If you read the word, it also says that John the Baptist also preached repentance. Luk 3:3, mk 1:4.
What is the difference between Jesus and John? Only Jesus alone could recreate the new spirit in us, and that the old spirit had to be overhauled. eze 36: 25 to 27.
This new spirit then together with the Holy Spirit is in us. This makes us the new creation in Christ. 2 cor 5:17. John's message of repentance could not change our spirits. So it is not repentance that makes us a better person. We are the NEW creation, meaning we have the NEW life totally in Christ. Not a better version of the old. The old is dead on the cross. The new is resurrected in Christ.

I've been watching Mike Winger for about a month now and I honestly really appreciate his teachings. He is very consistent but not dogmatic and has great commentary.
I am a charismatic, and probably WoF (I say probably because I dislike being categorized I'm a disciple of Jesus and just try to follow his teachings). I believe I the gifts of the spirit and don't believe they've disappeared, because there's no scripture to backup that claim, as well as miracles still happening everyday.
That being said, what I dont like about Joel is that he doesn't say the hard things that need to be said. Sometimes, we HAVE to look at a person and say "you know, you're living a very sin-filled life and that's not ok." Now we shouldn't just leave it at that, we should offer help, advice, prayer etc. But Joel simply doesn't say that harsh things that need to be spoken. Jesus himself even told people they were going to hell and that what they did was foolish.

I have listened to Mike for longer than just a 30 second clip or a single post. To dare to put him in the same category as Joel Olsteen is shameful. Mike constantly preaches repentance of sin and faith in Christ unto salvation. You, Sir, are misleading people and causing disunity.

Dude youāre stretching. I like Mike Winger. The thought and effort he puts in. Using one small statement to describe his views on repentanceā¦he does hit it a bit different than Osteenā¦and yesā¦thatās what Iām thinking when I repent is Iāll do better, be better. Otherwise itās not repentance.

I have to agree with the posts that point out that itās not the talk about repentance that is the problem, itās not talking about the sinful nature of man. Joel talks about people are basically good, the Bible says that man is sinful and doesnāt say anything thing about there is an innate goodness in mankind. We can only become good through repentance and turning away from sin (the key that people are criticizing Joel about neglecting with his congregation). Itās not about living your best life, the Bible says the world will hate you because it hates me. Joel wants to liberate his church of this distinction so that they can be liked by the world. So your argument really doesnāt address the actual contradictions of Joel with the Bible.

Too many people are crazy judgemental! The Bible is very clear that there are none righteous.
Just as Joel Osteen, who is not perfect but loves the Lord with all his heart and preaches about how people are not to be so so negative all the time and strive to be more positive and to do better and overcome things according to the gospel.
The Bible is also very clear.. that we are to love God with all our heart and mind and love one another.. that covers it all.š
