In Russian we have several parts for our names: a first name, a surname, and a patronymic. In this video, I explained how patronymics are derived from our fathers' names.

I actually took Russian in middle school. My name is Dimitri Evanovich. Miss Nadia is the only teacher I liked in all of my schooling besides my Latin teacher Miss Petrou. I loved Russia as a kid and never saw Russia as the enemy.

In Irish we have the same system. Its not used by English speakers but it is still used in the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking areas).
So my father in law is called Máirtín and his father was called Eddie. So his full name is simply Máirtín Eddie. His daughter Eileen would be called 'Eileen Máirtín Eddie'. But (since Irish is a Celtic language) you can also use the matronymic, following your mothers side. So in my case since I'm a blow-in (outsider), locals would refer to my children using the matronymic

My name is Maitreya Jambhulkar.

The surname Jambhulkar refers to blackberry trees my ancestors used to own and protect. And also, Jambhul is a sub division of my tribe.

In Norway we used to have the fathers name + sen . If your fathers name was Peter, your sirname would be Petersen. In ca 1915 we got a new law in regard to names = the name of a place/farm was your new sirname.

In reality the young guy maybe did not know it but for centuries and till WW1 in some regions till WW2 also the Italian language had the " father respectful form" to every name. In example my granfather his name was Giovanni, in the ID had as complete name Giovanni fu Giacinto. Where Giacinto was his father and " fu" past form of the verb " to be" meant from Who he was born. That was by law till 4 generations ago, specially during the Monarchy not in the Republican time. Ciao ❤
