The Paris Olympics aimed to be the greenest Games yet, promising a 50% cut in single-use plastic. This was a golden opportunity to showcase large scale reusable systems.

Unfortunately, the reality falls short. Photos and reports reveal a system heavily reliant on plastic. Drinks have been poured from single-use plastic bottles into branded plastic cups. The branding means they cannot be reused for future events and people are more likely to take them home as a souvenir than return them for reuse. This approach misses the mark on reducing plastic waste.

We're disappointed that more wasn't done. This was a chance to show that big events can reduce single-use plastic. Instead, it's another case of greenwashing from the event sponsor.
