I'm Pregnant. When Should I Go to the Doctor?
ā
As soon as you have missed a period (around 4-6 weeks):
Visit to confirm pregnancy through a urine or blood test.
Early ultrasound may not always detect the pregnancy at this stage.
ā
6-7 weeks:
Confirm intra-uterine pregnancy and viability through ultrasound.
Routine blood investigations are initiated upon viability confirmation.
ā
10-13 weeks:
Nuchal Translucency scan and double marker test for assessing the risk of chromosomal abnormalities.
ā
Every 4 weeks after the 13-week visit until 28 weeks:
Regular check-ups to monitor the progress of pregnancy and address any concerns.
ā
18-21 weeks:
Anomaly scan (also known as a detailed anatomy scan) to check for any structural abnormalities in the baby.
ā
24 weeks:
Glucose tolerance test (GTT) to screen for gestational diabetes.
Repeat complete blood count (CBC) to monitor hemoglobin levels.
Urine routine test.
ā
28-36 weeks:
Visits every 2 weeks to closely monitor the pregnancy as it progresses.
Continuation of routine prenatal care, including checking blood pressure, weight, and fetal growth.
ā
36 weeks onward:
Weekly visits to closely monitor the end of pregnancy.
ā
At 36 weeks:
Hemoglobin and urine checks to ensure the mother's health.
Vaginal swab to rule out any vaginal infections that may require treatment.
Take good care of yourself and your growing baby, and best wishes for a smooth and healthy pregnancy journey!
