I never said no but was well compensated for my contributions. After about 10 years i started feeling some burnout and knew it was time to move on. I'm glad I did it but I'm also glad I didn't stay in it long term. At some point life becomes much more important than a job.

It used to be called "having work ethics". Now it's becoming the selfish and vs the wanna be selfish. The future of our society is dim

My wife was this way. She died at 36 of a heart attack. Part of me thinks it was her choices, the vax and some other factors Iāll never understand but she did not know how to say no to her co-workers and did everything by the book 100% of the time to her own personal detriment with her work load.

My personal experience is that these "pullers", as she negatively refers to them as, are the people who advance the fastest at companies. They take on all the work handed to them, complete the work with ease, and are the first in line for promotions. If you choose some lazy path of not doing work just because it wasn't assigned to you, I can promise you'll be the last person the boss wants to promote.

Parents had a high work ethic that I emulated through my working life. I just did the work no matter how much I was given - no questions asked. Everyone around me and above me benefited from this - except for me but an occasional āattaboy.ā The saying among the managers with employees like me was, ā when you got a great horse, you ride it - and ride it like hellā¦ā Donāt be me. Work around your life - donāt let work become your life.
