I always kind of understood emilys hurt in this scene but she also could be very controlling and it could be a toxic situation for rory to be in. Yes I think rory should have handled it differently for sure. But emily was also being a tad overreacting here i think and also i cant help but chuckle at

I get where the rest of the comments are coming from but Emily was raised that if your not Married and have children and status you have nothing as a women and she thought this was her second chance to be seen in a good light i love this scene because it shows that Emily was really hurt by lorrili leaving and she did everything out of love...she didn't want her daughter or granddaughter to be looked down on...and i love that....
(Spoilers)in the Netflix reboot of this they show Emily realize that in end the end it didn't matter that what mattered was connections sadly it took he lossing Richard to realize that and she finally seen how shallow her "friends" are...we forget that she was from a different time and im not saying she is right but in this moment she was having a very difficult time we forget she had her own problems and in a way helping rory gave her a purpose and a project she didn't really have much and even though she was disappointed in lorali in the beginning i think she started to admire her because she knew what she wanted and went.after it and she had the strength to call people out Emily if you notice only yells at people she can control her husband, he daughter and granddaughter and servents....she really is and amazing women from a long gone era...and shes still human and makes mistakes just like we all do...but at least she's talking about them to someone...

Poor Emily.
It's a TV show but many a distraught mother and grandmother has agonized over a disrespectful, rebellious daughter or granddaughter. Poor Emily has both. I honestly don't know why she kept fighting to have a relationship with the gruesome twosome. They're both chaotic messes who live for drama. Just as children can and do go no contact with their parents, I do think that in some instances the parents should choose no contact for their own mental well being.
The gruesome twosome can't be saved from themselves.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I hurt for Emily in this moment. She felt all the pain of losing Lorelai all over again with Rory and this entire arc probably opened up so many wounds for her. Yes, she is very narcissistic and controlling but she is also only doing what she was taught and raised her daughter the way she was. Beneath the surface she is a hurt child too, the same as Lorelai, but she never got to heal and grow and become her own person until after Richard (RIP Edward Herrmann ❤) was gone in AYITL
