Most people think that animation and art are the same thing. Like how Scott Pilgrim art is very simplistic and lower quality, but the show's animation is fantastic. Naruto's ARTSTYLE is flawless, but the show's animation was lacking sometimes

Funnily enough on that same arc there's an overuse of zoom ins that give you the feeling of you're watching an Indian drama. I didn't notice the details until I rewatched it earlier last year, but now I remember it vividly.
Oh also in one episode from Shippuden, the animation studio apparently runs out of budget because you start seeing Kurama playing whack a mole on pain. The whole thing is meme material

Oh theres tonnes of this, especially the long runners like Naruto.
Dont forget the stock footage that crops up in every episode, or the long pan across an area with bit of narration, or of course the dreaded recap episode.
Its not a knock to the animators but time and money are not unlimited.

I remember you could tell that a great fight was coming BECAUSE the animation quality leading up to that would tank. You could see them moving around their resources to the important bits.

I completely agree. I remember watching Naruto Shippuden and almost every time they did the "Naruto run" it looked terrible. It looked like the characters were doing a weird semi t-pose thing while running in the stiffest way possible.

Naruto and One Piece are examples of popular shows that have some bad animation because the animators have to keep up with the release 😅 I still love them though especially Naruto
