In 1932, Australia declared war… on emus. Farmers begged for help as thousands of giant birds destroyed crops, so the government sent soldiers armed with machine guns.

But the battle didn’t go as planned. The emus scattered, outran trucks, and survived wave after wave of gunfire. Despite using thousands of rounds of ammunition, the army admitted defeat.

The emus had won. 🦤
What became known as the Great Emu War remains one of history’s strangest and most embarrassing military campaigns.
