Poor lane discipline should be punishable by points and fines. Fed up with our motorways being ruined by incompetent drivers that can’t grasp the most basic of concepts.

Lane 1 is totally empty for the duration of the clip. Until the Police start handing out points, lane discipline will remain a problem. I regularly drive in Germany and its not a problem there, even at Autobahn speeds.

I had a colleague who I regularly travelled with. One day on the motorway she asked me if I wasn't a very confident driver. I asked why she was asking and she said ' because you're always driving in the left hand lane '. She consistently drove in the middle lane.

The amount of vehicles i see joining the m8 here in Scotland and automatically head for lane 2 or3 and drive well below the 70mph limit even though there are no vehicles in lane 1

I've realised that people in The UK don't understand how motorway lanes work. People truly believe lanes 3 and/or 4 are 'fast lanes'. They're not. The speed limit is 70 mph regardless of the lane you're in, and unless overtaking you must always keep left.

That's the kind of reckless behaviour that could kill someone. If the driver of the black Vauxhall had panicked more or not handled their steering ok, they could've potentially completely wiped out.

Even if they're in the wrong and causing frustration. It's absolutely inexcusable and not worth doing a reckless punishment manoeuvre that could potentially kill or seriously injure them or others.

Ah, the do as I say not as I do lane police.

Why not give a beep of the horn as you pass and and point to the left. If they are still unclear then pass them safely and move left one lane at a time as far as you can go safely. They might get the message, they might not. If they don’t is it really up to other drivers to make things worse?

We do need to stop the middle lane hogging though. Sitting in lane 3 means the driver is taking up the space of 3 cars... his own car and the 2 non-existent cars he is 'overtaking'. It causes congestion and road rage!

People simply aren’t taught how to drive on motorways, despite it being the easiest form of driving, I don’t understand why people can’t figure it out, lane 1 is a driving lane, any other lane is an overtaking lane, there’s no reason to be in any overtaking lane if you’re not actively overtaking

I know what I'm going to do get on the motorway and go straight into the middle lane with no one about. As I have 0 observation skills I don't know how to adjust speed, I am not able to change lanes. Why on earth do people think its easier to drive in the centre lanes. When you should be aware of what's happening on both side. Where if in lane 1 you just simply have to be aware of what's out front and traffic from your right lanes behind . Instead of both left and right . I'm sure people are allergic to lane 1

I watched a car pull onto the empty m1 early this morning they literally pulled onto the motorway and straight In To the middle
Lane for no reason at all
No cars around, and I was no where near them, back into their safe zone in a world of their own

This is vastly more dangerous than lane hogging. I have seen billboards telling drivers to stop lane hogging. I think there should be a lot more of those. But I can help feeling that it's driving instructors we have to blame for this.

Quite often I find that moving from lane 3 to lane 1 at a safe distance, is enough for the middle lane hogger to realise their mistake and pull across. It should obviously be done at a safe distance though.

Agree. Especially in younger drivers they change lanes far too much. I think because people complain so much about lane hoggers, they overcompensate.

I was driving on the M25 on Thursday afternoon and a car in the third lane (smart motorway section as in this clip) pulled out into the fourth lane without looking and missed side swiping the SUV passing him by inches. The SUV veered right and was fortunate to have the extra space in the central margin as in this clip. The third lane driver realised at the last moment and pulled back into his lane.

i find undertaking them (safely) is often the way forward. undertaking in most peoples mind is illegal so it gets their attention and more often than not i see them move over once ive passed them and continue at 70 in lane one.

People always cut in too early, they get so fixated on getting in front that they seem to forget where their car is in relation to the car they've just overtook.

What we need is a law that such camera footage can be sent to police and accepted as evidence. Prosecute and also share the fines with those reporting the crimes with evidence like this. We need a more community involvement with law enforcement. Now in the era of such cameras it could be done. Changing the risks to criminals of getting caught, making society better and safer.

Lets have more police driving the roads to deal with poor lane discipline.

I remember you having an analysis video on your channel Ashley, it was where a Peugeot driver with no ABS caused an accident when a lane hogging Audi driver moved back to the left badly. If this vauxhall black car has ABS, which I think it did, it probably saved the driver's life, and so did their control.
