Iâm really glad youâre arguing for a more well rounded view than Melissa Doughertyâs sort of anti-New Thought ideology would allow. Itâs good to look at the historical analysis and the cycles and ebbs and flows of church and social movements throughout our timelines. On the segregation issue, isnât it the case that a lot have argued that it is the Bible itself that was used in support of these practices? Some would make the counter case that, as you have said , they just didnât know their Bibles enough.Perhaps it wasnât a lack of knowing the Bible, but a more strict bondage to church authority on teaching itâŚ

It seems that few people understand the bible, and it definitely shouldn't be that way, but on the other hand knowing the scriptures didn't help the Jewish leaders recognize Jesus. We need to be humble and open as we interact with the word of God as we would, if Jesus was sharing it personally with us as we study.

People DID know their Bibles well enough. But you are dismissing the ignorance of the entire era! Even if EVERY person living along the Bible Belt became aware of the right and wrong amongst different races of people, there was still many others who outnumbered that group. I donât think most people had bad intentions but thatâs kinda irrelevant when you look at the realities of segregation. And because many of the original slaves were captured & sold by their own people, they even felt that was what they were supposed to do! As heartbreaking as it is to think about that now, these babies, children, young people & adults seemed to feel or think they were âless thanâ!
That is a horrible, sickening stain left on our country but the bright side is of the heroâs who fought their way out to overcome their plight and remind the world that they were just as great or better than any other flesh & bone person so everyone else needed to get over it! Their strength and courage of conviction was often due to the most powerful belief system I have ever witnessed!
Cultures, eras, religious hypocritesâŚnone of this can come close to a true RELATIONSHIP with God the Father!

Not only do people need to read the scriptures but to meditate on them and be doers of the Word and not hearers only !
