Kingdom Hearts Final Mix: Easter Eggs & Hidden Details #28- Final Fantasy References

Welcome to episode 28 of Kingdom Hearts Easter Eggs & Hidden Details.

Today let's have a look at some obscure references to Final Fantasy found throughout Kingdom Hearts. First of all on day 2 on Destiny Islands, if we speak to Riku he will suggest the name "Highwind" for the raft. This is actually the surname of Cid from his original game FFVIII.

Afterwards Riku asks us what we would call the raft and by default the name "Excalibur" appears which is actually the name of a recurring sword weapon in the Final Fantasy series of games.

There are other weapons which get their name from Final Fantasy as well. For example the Lion Heart keyblade is names after "Lion Heart", one of Leon's gunblades from FFVIII.

Save the Queen and Ultima Weapon also get their name from recurring weapons in the Final Fantasy series.

In this series I aim to compile every Easter Egg/ Hidden Detail in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (these are various things located across the game that are easily missed or little bits of information that I find interesting). Look out for more episodes in the series & you might discover some new secrets you never knew about.

Cid Highwind was in FF7, otherwise nice trivia.

Also the keyblade "Metal Chocobo" is a reference to the Chocobo, the race of birds that appear in (almost) every FF game! 😊

The name Excalibur is also the name of a sword wielded by King Arthur.

The Moogles that appear in various Kingdom Hearts games also appear just as frequently in several Final Fantasy games. There's also the One-Winged Angel Keyblade in the Final Mix version that obtained after defeating Sephiroth in the Platinum Cup which share the very same name from the Final Fantasy VII Original Soundtrack The Song can even be heard during the aforementioned battle! Also, one of Sora's abilities he can learn is Zentetsuken which both the action description and name are shared with Odin's Signature, deadly attack, a summon/boss in various Final Fantasy games

My interpretation was Riku wanted to name the raft after Final Fantasy, while Sora wanted to name it after Disney (Sword in the Stone). But it sounds like Excalibur is both Final Fantasy and Disney! The equivalent of Riku asking to play Final Fantasy, and Sora asking to play Kingdom Hearts!

Am I the only one who's gonna correct him on this, it's final fantasy 7, almost every final fantasy has a character named Cid. In KH Cid is from FF7. Highwind is the airship in FF7.

Leon's name in Final Fantasy was Squall Leonhart, so the Leonhart Keyblade could also be a reference to his last name

The name Highwind could also be a reference to Kain Highwind from FFIV too.

I always let Riku win because Highwind is such a good name by itself for the ride haha

Did you know Cid was from FF7 and you said FF8 in the video? Did you know that? He’s from FF7 not 8. Idk if you knew that but for my money man he’s from FF7 not 8 and also, can’t recall if you caught it but Cid is from FF7 not 8. And to make another note, Cid is actually from FF7 not 8. Furthermore, Cid is from FF7 not 8. Good video and all but I actually noticed that you said Cid is from FF8 when in reality he’s in 7. And if I could just point out two more small nitpicks 1.) Cid is from FF7 not 8 and 2.) Cid is actually from FF7 not 8. Thought I’d just point it out since I’m the only man in existence who knows that Cid is actually from FF7 not 8 and if you look through the comments on this video literally not a soul is pointing out that you said Cid is from FF8 when in reality he’s in 7 so just thought you should know man. For one final note, Cid is actually from FF7 not 8. Great vid though! P. S. Cid is actually in FF7 not 8.

Why go through the trouble of making this video and not fact checking the extremely small amount of information in it?
