If you need to create more separation between your kick and bass during mastering, this technique using Ozone works exceptionally well!

Have you ever used Ozone for this?

I just put 100 instances of OTT on the Master, and hope for the best.

Nice control. I use FF Pro MB for this. Just give the other elements a little focus and space 😁

is there any reason why you wouldn’t do this in the mixing stage?

This could be done with a stock ableton compressor... no?

After that do you need to turn your output down a half db to compensate?

Sounds better bypassed. Like, much better. And whatever you did was applicable, only to your track and not to other tracks. That is something you should mention, but it wasn't even applicable to your track because it sounded better bypassed

So, yeah - again, this is one of those tricks that adds just a couple 1-3% of points to the overall track.

People often get to the end of mixing a track and wonder what they need to change to fix it. But, really, it's the culmination of hundreds of little choices done right, in order to add up to that final polished and balanced mix.

Regards this trick tho... is this a subjective preference thing?

Because, while I like 'engaged', it sort of flattens and glues the two together. Everyone always talks about glue being a desirable trait.. but 'bypassed' give more thump from the bass and sounds like the kick and bass are separate (but not in a bad way) rather than just a band of low end chunk?

This is a mixing process not mastering
