This is the new Audio Headboard from Dux and Bang & Olufsen, a “state-of-the-art bed and entertainment experience” for those with very deep pockets.

When two premium brands such as this collaborate on a product, you can expect a luxurious, minimalist design coupled with an eye-watering price tag.

And based on what I saw at Dux’s flagship Duxiana showroom in Marylebone this week, the Audio Headboard doesn’t disappoint.

With prices starting at around £60,000 for the bed, headboard and pair of Beosound Level speakers that adorn it, this is one of the most decadent ways of enjoying audio at home.

The hand-crafted headboard is available in three solid wood finishes, comes with two composite stone bedside tables and incorporates a two-way audio system with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. There’s also support for Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and more.

The speakers can be unhooked from the headboard and used portably thanks to in-built batteries and will automatically adjust how they sound depending on their orientation.

Total output is stated at 105W and the speakers are cradle-to-cradle certified, meaning that every single one of their components can be replaced.

That’s great from a sustainability point of view and allows you to upgrade your setup in line with changes to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocols.

It was tricky to gauge just how good the Audio Headboard sounded from the live PA of Phats and Small’s 90s anthem “Turn Around” but it had plenty of low-end presence and oozed Scandinavian style.

Its price means the Dux and Bang & Olufsen Audio Headboard will be out of reach for all but the most affluent punters, but if you had the cash, would you buy it?
