Led by *Dr. Deepa Agashe*, the lab explores ecological drivers and genetic basis of evolutionary change in organisms!✨

🔬 *Key Research Areas:*🔬

◻️ Translation rate and accuracy:
The lab showed that synonymous codon changes in an essential protein-coding gene can have major impacts on bacterial growth.🧬🔬

◻️ Fitness consequences of new mutations:
The lab uses phylogenetic approaches to analyze the evolutionary processes that drive major shifts in bacterial genomic GC content.🧬✨

◻️ Tradeoffs and evolution:
The lab has observed that although synergistic pleiotropy is fairly common, antagonistic pleiotropy is very rare and varies substantially across 11 different carbon sources.🔍📊

◻️ Inter-specific interactions and their impact evolution:
The lab aims to study the evolutionary impact of such interactions, by analysing host-pathogen as well as putative beneficial interactions between insects and bacteria.📈🔬
